It's Sad to Think...We're Not Gonna Make It

Everyday I get an e-mail from a real estate agent that I've worked with in the past. The e-mail details houses he knows I might be interested in buying. It's always interesting to see those houses I recognize: old neighborhood homes, ones I've past buy on the street etc. Well this morning one came across as a surprise. It's the house of a gay couple that I know. The last I had spoken to them they were on the rocks. Then today I find the house on the market.

Sad...but who knows maybe they're happy and just trying to cash out on their investment. Over the years, they've put so much work into the house. The thing is gorgeous: home theatre, granite counters...everything meticulously (in gay fashion) attended to.

This got me thinking of a song (I have a song for every occasion) by Gladys Knight called "Neither One of Us". This was X and my break up song...hopefully it's not theirs. I wouldn't wish this pain on anyone:
It's sad to think
We're not gonna make it
And it's gotten to the point
We're we just can't fake it
For some ungodly reason
We just won't let it die

I guess neither one of us
Neither one of us wants to be the first to say good-bye

I keep wondering
Wondering
What I'm gonna do without you
And I guess you must be wondering the same thing too
So we go on
Go on together
Living a lie!

Because I guess neither one of us
Neither one of us wants to be the first to say good-bye

Every time I find the nerve
Every time I find the nerve to say I'm leaving
Memories...
Those old memories get in my way
Lord knows it's only me
Only know it's me
That I'm deceiving

But when it comes to saying good-bye
That's a simple word that I just cannot say!

There can be no way
There can be no way
This can have a happy ending
No, no
So we just go on
Hurting and pretending
Convincing ourselves to give it just one more try

Because I guess neither one of us
Neither one of us wants to be the first to say
Neither one of us wants to be the first to say
Neither one of us wants to be the first to say
Farewell my love...
Goodbye

That has to be the saddest song in the world. Holding onto something that has died...the hurt, the anguish. The line "every time I find the nerve to say I'm leaving...those those old memories get in my way" would speak volumes to me. And also "we just go on hurting and pretending...convincing ourselves to give it just one more try."

Oh Lord...

"Bandit, get Daddy a tissue!"

Your right that is a very sad song, yet beautifully written.
It is always sad to see couples going separate ways especially when it is US. I spent 12 months holding onto memories in a hope that things would improve but a month ago I finally realised I was holding on to a false hope. But we get through those tough times & in time we heal and begin a new journey...xoxox

Good gravy! It's a good thing I read this post at home...wouldn't want to get weepy at work.
